Humanitarian Objectives

Children supported by Door of Hope
Children supported by Door of Hope.
Encompassing the compassion of its founder, Door of Hope’s objectives bring practical and spiritual assistance to poor children existing in socially deprived areas of Eastern Europe. Rather than spreading its projects thinly, far and wide, it focuses its humanitarian interests with concern and intent, on deprived and frequently forgotten people of three Eastern European countries.

In depressing shanty towns, ghetto villages and run-down city suburbs of Bulgaria, the Ukraine and Latvia, Door of Hope feeds and assists hundreds of tiny mouths from its efficiently staffed feeding centres.

Realising that the mind of a child must be stimulated as well as its fragile body fed, projects have been devised (particularly in Bulgaria and the Ukraine), for basic education and literacy programmes. Door of Hope endeavours to encourage a child through its human development; from the street through to some academic qualification, and whenever possible, employment.

Many of these disadvantaged children are unable to access main-stream education. Most of them are from dysfunctional homes at the bottom of the social scale. A vast number are living on the streets –– literally! Many are orphans, scores are from one-parent families and a large number have language problems.

Door of Hope's Director of Educational Projects, Dr Janet King, together with foreign staff, endeavour to create for these deprived children, a safe-learning environment as well as a Christian moral framework and hope for their future.
